Public debt sustainability and economic recovery in WAEMU in a context of crisis
Objectives
- Enhancing the target audience's understanding of the issue of public debt sustainability and economic recovery in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.
- Highlighting the dynamics of public debt in the WAEMU Member States to provide the necessary financing to achieve socio-economic progress, particularly with regard to new expenditures connected with the management of the pandemic and the stimulation of the economy.
- Providing an opportunity for participants to discuss the challenges they face and the importance of reconciling financing needs for economic recovery with the preservation of public debt sustainability.
- Discussing new initiatives to finance development actions taken at the international level (DSSI, SDRs, etc.) and at the regional level (stimulus bonds (OdR) and support and resilience bonds (BSR)).

Speaker
Dr. Franck Bassambié Bationo, Director General of Economic and Monetary Affairs at the BCEAO, is a specialist in economic, monetary and financial issues. He has given numerous lectures and courses at COFEB, CESAG and the University of Ouagadougou.
Dr. Bationo has also written numerous articles and published a book entitled "Politiques monétaire et de change : Le franc CFA, un choix optimal pour l'Union Monétaire Ouest-Africaine" (Monetary and foreign exchange policies: the CFA franc, an optimal choice for the West African Monetary Union).
At the BCEAO, he has held several positions of responsibility in research and economic and monetary analysis. In particular, he has served as Advisor to the Director General of Economic and Monetary Affairs, Director of Research, Director of Publications and Director of Statistics.
