Objectives

Taking stock of the effects of the COVID-19 health crisis and the many challenges arising from it; Discussing the modalities of economic recovery for developing countries; Exploring the most appropriate policies to ensure economic resilience and recovery from exogenous shocks of a similar nature to the COVID-19 pandemic; and Providing an opportunity for participants to reflect on the need to analyze this issue with a focus on African economies.

Facilitator

Dr. Mbaye Diène is a full professor of economics at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar. He gives tutorials and lectures in economics to students at UCAD, ENSAE, CESAG, Dakar Bourguiba University, and Clermont Ferrand Auvergne, in addition to courses in research methodology for COFEB degree students. Professor Diène has written numerous articles published in English-language economic journals. He has also participated, as a supervisor and jury member, in more than thirty (30) doctoral thesis defenses in economics, in universities and training centers in Africa and Europe. In the course of his academic career, he has held the following main positions: Director of the Department of the Information and Innovation Economy at the Consortium pour la Recherche Economique et Sociale (CRES), since 2016; Head of the Department of Economic Engineering at Bourguiba University, since 2007; and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (FASEG-UCAD), 2014-2020.
